The local pork community gathered for a relaxed day of fun, food and golf earlier this week at Quarry Oaks Golf Course. It was ProVista Agriculture’s 5th annual charity tournament with this year’s proceeds going to Cancer Care.

“I think it is great to get the industry out together to socialize and have a fun day in a relaxed environment,” said Event Organizer and Owner/Operator of Provista Agriculture Harold Rempel, whose company matches the money made at the event in a donation to charity. “It can be a stressful business we are all in, and taking some time out for a relaxing day of fun is great.”

There were six holes featuring pork, which Rempel says can be tricky in keeping the pork tasting good out on a tee box for a five and half hour period. But overall he was very satisfied with everyone’s efforts including the lunch by Manitoba Pork and the pork dinner provided by ProVista Agriculture.

Rempel adds that HyLife was a focal point for golfers with their set-up on Quarry 1. The smell from the hole was attention-grabbing as carts drove up in anticipation of something to eat. HyLife’s internal chief Dave MacPherson didn’t disappoint, taking the day prior and the day of to specially craft smoked ribs and pork belly for the day’s festivities.

Along with HyLife’s hole sponsorship, there was a lot of company representation with President Claude Vielfaure, senior managers, directors, and many other staff members in attendance. Overall, it was a great day to celebrate the pork industry under the sunny, clear skies of southern Manitoba.
