He is described as having a heart for helping others. Greg Michael Carlos, Safety Clerk, was recently named one of HyLife’s Volunteers of the Year. As a company focusing on enriching our communities, we annually recognize two team members committed to giving back.

Carlos, a 32-year-old father, supports various organizations and has an unwavering passion for supporting newcomers. He is also the past President of the South Eastman Filipino Association

“Life to me is not about money, not about how much you make, or your status; it is about how many people you serve and how you help your community. Volunteering is not about you; it’s much bigger,” shares Carlos.

Greg came to Canada at age 14  from the Philippines; as a newcomer, he remembers the challenges of adapting to life in a new country.

“We started here and didn’t have any relatives or support, so I want to give back. We came with one suitcase. I will never forget that. I have a bigger reason “why” – why I give my time, why I want to help. It is my honour to serve the community, especially the newcomers; it motivates and encourages me to do more.”

Winning the annual HyLife philanthropy award allows Carlos to do more. In fact, the accolades come with an opportunity to pay it forward by selecting a local cause to receive a $1,000 donation. He has selected Steinbach Family Resource Center as the recipient. This gift will support the free preschool learn and play program, which aims to support families with young children.

“We serve many new Canadians and refugees and all underrepresented minorities. Motherhood and parent-hood are universal in their impact, and so we are affirming and inclusive in our approach to supporting healthy families,” said Michelle Wyryha, Steinbach Family Resource Centre.

Congratulations to Greg Carlos –our 2023 HyLife Volunteer of the Year, Farms.
