Health and Safety
HyLife’s Ongoing Commitment to Employee Safety
The safety of all HyLife employees is a top priority and we are proud to maintain an excellent safety record. We take our safety responsibilities very seriously. To help ensure this, HyLife examines all potential hazards in its workplaces to reduce and eliminate risks to our employees. We also enforce strict safety policies, safe work procedures and personal protective equipment requirements that are fully compliant with the federal and provincial Health and Safety acts and regulations.
Our workplace health and safety committees meet to address issues and discuss ways to upgrade our already high safety standards. All employees benefit from various safety courses provided by the company which further enhances an understanding of the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace; as we always strive to build a strong safety culture.
HyLife’s Ongoing Commitment to Consumer Food Safety
Consumers place their trust in the quality, nutritional value and safety of our products. HyLife never takes this trust for granted. To ensure our animals receive only safe, quality feed (which in turn ensures safe, high quality product for the consumer), all HyLife feed mills are Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certified. HACCP is an internationally recognized food safety program. In addition, HyLife Ltd. is fully compliant with all levels of the Canadian Pork Council’s Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) program. The CQA program is based on the HACCP system and has been recognized by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as an approved method of maintaining food safety at every level of pork production.

Comments from Participants
How will the Master’s program benefit our company?
One of the most important aspects of HyLife’s Mission Statement is, we take care of our employees. And, a great way to do this is by providing our employees with unique opportunities to develop and enhance their skill set. The Masters program benefits HyLife because our employees are given opportunities to step outside their primary role and develop skills in new areas, learn more about the company, and connect as a team.
Have you seen any benefits of this program?
An exciting benefit of the program includes valuable feedback from our Masters group to provide innovative solutions that go beyond the special projects they worked on during the program. For example, the year one Masters team provided advice on HyLife’s Strategy Map and Mission Statement – neither of which were identified as areas we needed them to work on but which added tremendous value to the company.
How will the Master’s program affect the culture of HyLife?
We have seen our Masters group work together with Senior Management and other leaders in the company to form a special bond which goes beyond the projects they are working on. This level of teamwork sets a powerful example throughout the company that regardless of what department or position we are in, we can achieve significant results when we work with cross-functional teams.
What impact will this program have on recruitment and retention?
The Masters program provides high potential talent with opportunities to learn and grow and contribute to our recruitment and retention process. These are key factors in engaging these up-and-comers within HyLife.
Masters team members who succeed through the program will be well positioned for future opportunities which will also enhance their connection and commitment to the company. When other employees hear about the program, they will also realize there are opportunities for everyone and will be inspired to participate in the various learning and development programs. This is attractive for people outside the company who will be encouraged when joining HyLife that there are many doors of opportunity open for them.
The tours and presentations aspect is also a great experience. Our team found them extremely valuable because it shows a bigger picture of HyLife than what most see. Getting involved in all aspects of HyLife encourage those who have never been in a barn (or been to the plant) to learn more about HyLife Foods and its impact within the company. This became a great learning experience to see each person’s area and to see the various tasks they manage each day.
Our Masters group had the pleasure of getting to interact with HyLife’s Sr. Management team and work closely with many of them as well. From discussion to interaction in a group setting, this became a valuable learning experience. Our team enjoyed the numerous discussions in a one-on-one setting during the events throughout the prestigious Masters program.
From business to personal interaction, with our Senior Management team, we’ve seen the amazing growth HyLife employees have experienced. At HyLife, we take care of our employees, our customers and our communities.
