We are proud to announce that Karan Sangfai, our President and Chief Executive Officer, has been appointed to serve on the International Trade Committee of the Premier’s Business and Jobs Council.

This designation reflects HyLife’s leadership role in global food production and international trade—and notably positions HyLife as the only protein company represented on the committee.

Announced by Manitoba’s Premier, Wab Kinew, the expansion of the Business and Jobs Council introduces three new subcommittees focused on trade diversification, workforce development, and tourism, ensuring the council’s work continues to reflect province’s evolving economic priorities.

Strengthening Trade and Economic Resilience

The new International Trade Committee will play a critical role in supporting Manitoba’s efforts to diversify trade relationships—both domestically and globally—at a time when global economic pressures and tariffs continue to impact Canadian industries.

“It is an honour to serve the Premier, and ultimately the province of Manitoba, where our company headquarters is proudly located,” shared Karan Sangfai, President and CEO, HyLife.

“HyLife’s expertise, as a globally integrated food company, means we have strong international market experience and insights. I look forward to participating in conversations that can help shape Manitoba’s trade strategy.”

Industry Leadership at the Table

The Premier’s Business and Jobs Council is co-chaired by Ash Modha, CEO of Mondetta Clothing, and Kevin Rebeck, President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour.

Sangfai joins a group of highly respected leaders from across Manitoba’s economic landscape, including:

  • Kurt Buehler, Group President, MacDon Industries
  • Chuck Davidson, President & CEO, Manitoba Chambers of Commerce
  • Aaron Dolyniuk, Executive Director, Manitoba Trucking Association
  • Carly Edmundson, President & CEO, CentrePort Canada
  • Gerry Price, Chairman & CEO, Price Industries
  • Jill Verwey, President, Keystone Agricultural Producers

A Strong Voice for Manitoba on the Global Stage

Since its creation, the Premier’s Business and Jobs Council has helped inform key government initiatives, including Manitoba’s economic development strategy, efforts to strengthen trade relationships with international partners such as China and the United States, and actions to support clean energy, productivity, and job creation.

Sangfai’s appointment reinforces HyLife’s ongoing commitment to global leadership, responsible growth, and contributing meaningfully to Manitoba’s economic future—while ensuring the protein and agri-food sector has a strong, informed voice at the provincial level.
