Our COVID-19 Measures
From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, HyLife has worked to develop effective and informed preventative measures across the company. As we learned more about the outbreak, these measures have evolved. To meet our obligation to take care of our employees, our animals, and our communities, we continually adjust these measures based on the guidance of medical professionals.
HyLife's COVID-19 Response Plan
We’ve developed a science-based company COVID-19 Response Plan alongside the direction of our Public Health Expert. This plan covers the immediate response and the key activities that need to happen when we are made aware of a positive COVID-19 case within the company. This plan has been reviewed by the Manitoba Public Health, CFIA, UFCW, and Work Place Health and Safety.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
We continue to purchase and provide our employees with personal protective equipment (PPE) the best we can so that they can do their jobs as safely as possible.
Electronic Contact Tracing
We have invested in Electronic Contact Tracing. The Canadian Government has identified that accurate contract tracing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This Electronic system that we have implemented allows us to contact trace in seconds instead of hours, helping us keep our employees safe in the event of a positive case of COVID-19.
Risk Assessment Team
We have created a Risk Assessment Team that consists of Public Health experts to work alongside our HR team to assist our employees in understanding better what is ‘essential’ beyond groceries and medicine when leaving their homes.
Daily Health Checks
We’ve implemented daily health checks that require all HyLife employees to answer COVID-19 related questions before being permitted to enter into a HyLife workspace. If employees show symptoms or have come in contact with someone who has flu-like symptoms, they are immediately sent home and provided with further support.
We use a thermal scanning camera as a part of our daily health checks at our plant in Neepawa to provide our teams with another level of protection.
We have added barriers between employees on the production floor and welfare spaces to maximize physical distancing.
We created an internal campaign through video messages, posts on our internal app, and graphics displayed throughout our company spaces, urging our employees to make responsible choices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Mandatory Mask Policy
We have implemented a company wide mandatory mask wearing policy on all HyLife property for employees.
We have created a self-isolation team that provides our employees with the essentials and reminds them of the self-isolation guidelines while they are in isolation.
HyLife U & all internal development participation has been moved to Webex technology instead of in-person gatherings. It is important that we continue to develop our people.
HyLife's COVID-19 Response Team
We have set-up a COVID-19 Response Team, which is a combination of leaders from across the company who are dedicated to planning and implementing new preventative measures
Public Health Expert
We have hired a Public Health expert to join our staff to provide science-based support to our employees and monitor and hold our teams accountable to the highest health standards. We have also hired a Staff Doctor and medical team.
Nasal Photodisinfection Treatments
Steriwave Nasal Photodisinfection treatments are available to employees free of charge to provide additional protection against viruses. Steriwave treatments destroy bacteria and fungi living in the nose and have been used over 60,000 times in Canadian hospitals.
Business Travel Policy
We have suspended all company travel based on the government’s guidelines. This includes daily employee travel between company facilities.
We have created a work from home plan for as many of our employees as possible and where it isn’t possible, we are taking extra precautions to make sure we are physical distancing.
We have continued to create new spaces at our processing plant site in Neepawa to continue to increase space available for employee breaks to help maximize physical distance where possible.
Third Party Access
We have restricted all third parties from entering HyLife workplaces.
Doing Business Digitally
We are taking measures to minimize paper transactions across the company.
Cleaning Work Areas
We perform extra cleaning in common areas.
We are providing additional payments to employees who are required to stay home while ill or self-isolate as an incentive to “do the right thing” and not feel pressured to come to work for financial reasons.
We have cancelled all company events indefinitely.
Committed to Our Communities
We have worked together with our communities to donate a total of 210,000 disposable masks. All in an effort to help make our communities a safer place to live.
Personal Travel Policy
All employees are asked to cancel personal travel outside of their home countries.
Air Purifier Installation
We have installed portable RAP air purifiers in some office areas and facilities where employees may congregate for extended periods of time. These units use heavy duty HEPA filters, bipolar ionization technology, and high-intensity UV light to kill off virus particles.
